Course Objectives:

This course will help you to apply the 2020 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Arrest and Emergency Cardiovascular Care in your clinical practice, including:

  • To review the importance of high quality CPR in a code and review methods for minimize interruptions such as pre-charging the defibrillator for pulse checks and establishing an advance airway early.
  • Application of appropriate rhythm recognition to correctly choose when a patient should be defibrillated and what medications they should receive.
  • Appropriate identification of risk factors for acute coronary syndrome, possible symptoms suggesting acute coronary syndrome and the importance of evaluating patients for STEMI with a 12-lead EKG and further lab work.
  • Emphasizing the differentiating characteristics of supra-ventricular tachycardia such as the rapid rate, narrow complex QRS and the absence of P waves and how this defines treatment.
